Join us for this incredible event and support a good cause at the same time! Dance of Hope: Stroke Awareness Event has been organized to spread awareness on stroke prevention/detection and to support the rehabilitation of stroke & brain/spinal cord injury survivors, such as Angelita Vargas, a globally acclaimed gypsy flamenco dancer.
Event Details: live flamenco music and dance performances* by Ethan Margolis and Cihtli Ocampo (in addition to the traditional flamenco, Ethan Margolis will play and sing some blues with flamenco beats underneath!), a stroke prevention talk by an educational coordinator of the Shepherd Center of Atlanta, art and photo presentation, silent auction, a Feldenkrais Method Therapy demo, a DVD presentation of Angelita Vargas' performance (from unpublished footages of "Dos Ramas"), and much more. One of the highlights of the event will be a motivational speech by professional cyclist, Saul Raisin, who made a miraculous return to life from a brain injury during the Circuit de la Sarthe bicycle race in France in 2006.
Event Goal: To spread the awareness of stroke prevention and collect funds for donation to support the rehabilitation of stroke survivors such as Angelita Vargas and through the Shepherd Center of Atlanta.

Background information of Angelita Vargas:
Angelita Vargas suffered a stroke in June 2011, which caused paralysis on the right side of her entire body. Despite the odds, thanks to the immediate treatments and a vigorous rehabilitation effort started in August 2011, Angelita has regained her ability to walk and move her right arm and hand. Atlanta is one of the cities that has been fortunate to witness and appreciate the artist's talent and achievements through her past performance and teaching in the city, and so the Atlanta flamenco community will join together to host this event not only to support her but to educate the public regarding stroke prevention and detection. The organizer's hope is that Angelita's road to recovery inspires and gives hope to those who are struggling with hardships in similar situations. Please attend this event and join forces with the international support group “Friends of Angelita Vargas".
Many thanks to all sponsors and contributors for their monetary and/or in-kind donations.

Thanks to Jose Maldonado of Paso Fino Dance Studio for letting me set this at the studio! Now Salseros are also helping this cause. Because they love what they do and they understand the pain of another dancer. Please make your donation today for Angelita Vargas' recovery. She wants to teach her art "flamenco puro" again.
